And while Mayor Wagner won't do a convention - on Saturday the UDP had to have a national party council meeting to take care of some urgent business. That meant reinstating Patrick Faber as the standard bearer for the Collet constituency - and laying down a code of conducts for all officials.
Today, leader Shyne Barrow told us it is just to underscore what is in the party constitution - and what everyone should know.
Shyne Barrow, UDP Leader
"That part of the constitution, that restrict members from publicly criticizing the party have remain and that is for good reason. So we should not spend any of our time or energy talking about other members of the party or the party itself even if we may disagree with internal occurrences. We should keep those internal"
Jules Vasquez
"Isn't it a sort of telling indicator that you all have to actually put this in a resolution to tell your members how to act in any functional team environment?"

Shyne Barrow, UDP Leader
"It is part of course in any democratic society that people will have dissenting views and people must be allowed to ventilate those views, people must be allowed to share a different opinion, but what people must not do ever is go public with those opinions at the injury of the party. We are 9 months away from the municipal elections and so we need to be clear. I don't want to pretend, we don't want to pretend as an organization that we did not have a problem and so the best way to deal with problems is to identify that yes, we had a problem of members going public with their discontent and we want to make it clear that whether you are justified or not, there is no justification for going public with any criticisms of the party."
At that NPC, the party also re-instated Delroy Cutkelvin as a member of the UDP in good standing.
