She's the government's attorney - but government will have to find a new one because Magali Marin Young is stepping down. It was confirmed in a press release from the Prime Minister's Office today that Marin Young leaves office at the end of the month June 2023 to return to private practice.

The Prime Minister - who is in Bahamas for a CARICOM meeting - told 7News that she promised him to stay in the job for two years, and she did so for two and a half. Still, there's no successor in place - he told us he hasn't identified her replacement yet.

A release says "Positive changes were made during her tenure, including judicial reforms, legal reform, and law revision, and will be felt for years to come."

But, Marin Young also leaves at a time when the Briceno Administration is facing legal challenges on all sides including the Ashcroft Alliance and the Feinstein group.

And, Marin-Young's position on the controversial Portico Definitive Agreement is considered pivotal. The Leader of the opposition yesterday alleged in an open letter that she had already told the government that the agreement was non binding, yet he still took it to Cabinet.

We asked her about that via text message today and she said, quote, "Any legal advice regarding the Definitive Agreement is legally privileged and confidential." End quote.

We also asked about the Cabinet confidential document on the Definitive Agreement which says she would quote "give approval of the final form of the Bill…in accordance with the provisions of the Definitive Agreement."

So has she given such approval? She told us, quote, "We have not been asked to review any bill regarding same." This is important since draft legislation accompanied that Cabinet document into the big room, and it is unclear who drafted it.

On another aside, we know the AG's Ministry suffered a setback earlier this week when the Leader of Government Business announced sheepishly that the Special Prosecutor Bill - which did not have the support of a majority in the Senate - would be sent back to Cabinet.
