And the Leadership Intervention Unit will be working closely with these new cops and the older ones. But since the passing of William Dawson back in January, his seat as chairman had been vacant.

That was until Monday when the new chairperson was named. Dominique Noralez, who recently graduated from UWI with a Bachelor's in Sociology and Political Science, has taken up the mantle. Today she told us that while she knows there's some big shoes to fill, she believes she has the support and the knowledge necessary to fulfill the role.

Dominique Noralez, Chairperson, LIU

"Two things I thought about two things. First, the person who I am following. Huge shoes and I know that Mr. William's passing was a shock for everyone. And so filling those shoes was a huge consideration for me. Beyond that, I this is what I'm passionate about. I've been in this space in different positions for quite a while as an advocate, as someone who worked at the Department of Youth, as someone who engaged with alternative to violence programs myself as a person, given where I grew up." "And so for me, the decision was a difficult one because I knew what, how magnanimous the job was. But I think with the support system that I have, I will be able to to do well. First, we have to look at where we are here, looking at the programs that are running." "In fact, today we have the agriculture program. We have some of the young men out in the rural areas doing some agricultural work. But we're looking at where we are. And then I'll see how we can improve the efficiency of the programs, and then we move from there." "Mr William himself, though, his shoes are big he also wore many shoes. And so his position is split between several people now. I do policy and really administrating and managing the LIU. We have people dealing with mediation. We have fantastic police officers at the LIU that I saw in action for the first time this week during our mediation session. So we have people filling those gaps and doing well." "My job here is to make it more efficient. My job here is to ensure that the beneficiaries get what they need to get and that we transition into a society that is safer for everyone. I think I bring significant experience to this space. I think I bring significant mentorship to the space because I know there are lots of people that I will have to lean on for guidance and advice as well." "But I am confident that they are confident in me. And so we move with that."

Reporter:
"Are you intimidated as a woman?"

Dominique Noralez, Chairperson, LIU
"I am not intimidated at all. I'm not intimidated at all. I thought it was I thought I had someone brought that question to me earlier. And it's not as I'm not intimidated at all."
