And as the senior ranking politician in Belize City - Minister Hyde is also quarterbacking the PUP city council slate. Yes, there's going to be a convention - but in Belize party politics - candidates, if they are to be successful - first have to get a nod from the ranking area politician.
That's Hyde - who is also in a peculiar situation when it comes to the issue of the mayor - which to hear him tell it - is still unsettled even after the national executive met on Monday. He characterizes it as something more like a negotiation.
And that's because the current mayor is Hyde's brother in law - and the main challenger, Allan Pollard, is a Hyde protégée and his godson because his father, Allan Duck Pollard Sr. is a Lake I political General.
Quite a pickle indeed! Hyde says, it's a beautiful struggle:
Cordel Hyde, Minister of Natural Resources

"2023, 2024 is a different exercise we have 125 candidates for like 67 seats thereabout so we are kind of popular right now as opposed to back in 2018 when we had to be begging people when we can't get people to run now we have a really nice problem we have more candidates than we have seats and so in one cases we will have endorsement conventions in others we will have contested conventions but you know when you're a political animal like me conventions, either contested or endorsed are really beautiful things but in the case of Belize City, We spoke to multiple admiral candidates we've have multiple conversations and I think we're pretty close to making a public announcement as to what's the direction ultimately we want both of these guys on the slate they are heavy weights and we need to get both of them on the slates so i think if we can get two for the price of one that's very beautiful thing and they deserve to be there so we are trying to finalize that and we should have an announcement pretty pretty soon."
We'll wait to hear what that announcement is.
