Tuning now to politics, as we told you airier this week - the UDP has averted a divisive conflict. Leader Shyne Barrow agreed to withdraw the motion to removed John Saldivar and Denny Grijalva as standard bearers. In exchange Shyne Barrow's leadership will remain un-challenged through to the next general election.
When we asked the party chairman about it yesterday he told us that conflict is a constant, but so is progress:
Mike Peyreffite, UDP Chairman
"We are a Democratic Party, but we're also united in the cause to good governance and proper representation of the people. People are their opinions and the UDP, the opinions are strong and from time to time we meet those opinions. No other opinions count. This is not like the PUP like Alan Pollard, even though he tops the polls every time he's told he can't run for mayor. That's not the UDP, the UDP is open the UDP is Democratic people are of their views."
"And sometimes that like any other family, it leads to some strong talk and some aggressive situations, but the cooler heads always prevail. That's the story of the UDP since 1973. And so it's not like anything to get all excited about its an internal matter it was dealt with internally and we move forward."
