Chris may be missed but he left without barely a goodbye kiss…
So it is for former Minister of State Chris Coye whose last day in government was yesterday - and unlike his former law partner Eamon Courtenay who left in 2023 - Coye didn't even get a full press release to say "buh-bye".
Coye was mentioned in the last line of the Cabinet Brief issued today. It says, quote, "the PM and its Cabinet thanked Minister of State Chris Coye for his dedicated service…and extend best wishes for his future endeavors…as he continues to serve as a government senator." End quote.
In other details form the Cabinet brief, 108 persons had to be moved into shelters as a result of recent flooding in the Toledo district, and they have now returned to their homes since floodwaters have subsided.
It also discusses the marijuana Referendum on the Caye Caulker scheduled for Wednesday, 8th October. The release says, "In the referendum, registered voters will voice their opinion on whether the Government of Belize should pass legislation to create a responsible, regulated, and taxable legal cannabis industry on the island of Caye Caulker, with a portion of the revenue directly benefiting Caye Caulker and its residents."
Also, Cabinet has also given it's approval for the introduction of a DNA bill act to establish a national DNA database to collect and use DNA samples in the investigation and prosecution of criminal offense, missing person cases and to identify human remains found in the country.
Cabinet also gave its approval for the DFC to rebrand its name as the Development Bank of Belize.
