It's been rumored recently that changes are being contemplated to the Leadership Intervention Unit which has been in operation since 2021.

Apparently they might be downsizing following the cabinet shuffle. And so we asked the former Minister of Home Affairs - who basically set up the LIU in its current form - about it. He told us he's clueless:

Kareem Musa, Minister of Immigration

"I have heard the media some media houses saying that but from the information I am getting atlas at the cabinet level I don't hear any move being made to down size it. I think the Leadership Intervention Unit, as envisioned by the late William Dawson, is such an incredible concept. Yes, there is a long way to go in terms of implementing a lot of what he had envisioned for the program, but you can clearly see a result, in terms of the statistics each year, the last three years, for the first time in over 25 years, we've had under 90 murders or 90 and below, I believe, when we used to have 140. And so when you look at it from a clear, black and white statistical purpose, you can see where it has had an impact. And so I would hope that it's something that we can continue and even strengthen as we move ahead."
