And in sports news, the minister, Rodwell Ferguson, is currently in Colombia where he was elected as President of Consecade Sports Council for Central America.
Consecade is a regional body that organizes sports at a juvenile level, and Ferguson hopes that with this election, he can connect athletes from the different countries in the region.
Today, Ferguson told us more about the election via telephone.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport, Youth & Sports
"There is a regional body called Consecade for juvenile sports for the entire region, it comprises of countries from Venezuela, Colombia, the entire English Caribbean, and Central America and so Panama retained the presidency for the entire region but then its categorized by countries so for Colombia and Venezuela, Venezuela hold the presidency, for the Caribbean, Jamaica was elected to the presidency, and for Central American region, I was elected to the presidency. So all presidents of the region become Vice Presidents of the entire region. So while Colombia is the president they are also Vice President for the region and also president for Central American region. It was an election, I was nominated by Nicaragua and then Honduras was also nominated and when you voted then 5 countries voted in favor of Belize and 2 countries in favor of Honduras."
Jules Vasquez:
"Are you excited by this opportunity, I know it's a good networking opportunity and also to get regional assistance and regional involvement for athletes."
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport, Youth & Sports
"That is my hope and my dream, if it's a region, then you must work together for the benefit of all. Some countries may be more lucrative than others so I just want to make sure that I, as Belize, make sure that we can benefit for the entire region.""So it's a very good opportunity and I hope I can do my best with the presidency for Central American region."
