And from Ms World to Belize's finest paddlers - the "slim and trim" team from Guava Limb won the 2024 La Ruta Maya River Challenge on Monday.
Javier Guardado, Daniel Cruz Jr and Andres Cabb Jr sprinted to the finish in an exciting stage 4.
They were first into the canal near the Haulover Bridge, but the Lucas Oil and Black Orchid teams challenged their lead in the final 5 miles to the city. Lucas Oil was leading as they passed the Chetumal Street bridge, but the Guava Limb boys came from behind, running neck and neck in the last 500 yards, to outsprint the Lucas Oil team and win by a boat length. The Guava Limb crew won 1st place in all 4 stages of the race
This is the second consecutive victory for the team. 64 teams started the race on Friday morning, March 8, and 59 finished the 170-mile, 4-day paddle from San Ignacio to Belize City. on Monday.
