A late evening advisory from the Met Office warns that water levels in Stann Creek, Belize and Orange Walk Districts will be on the rise today and throughout the weekend. Those in low lying areas and near inland bodies of water are advised to remain on alert as more showers are expected over the next couple of days.
After several bridges and other roads were temporarily closed overnight due to floods caused by heavy rains on Thursday night, today the Ministry of Works told 7NEWS that most of the affected areas have been re-opened. That should be very good news for those people who must use the bridge in Unitedville that was flooded including the section of the Western Highway by mile sixty nine between San Ignacio and Benque that has been cleared.
However the five foot double barrel culvert in Santa Familia will need to be replenished after flood waters washed it away. Presently area residents have been using a temporary diversion. The flooding had also temporarily stopped traffic travelling on the Bullet Tree Road where sections were reportedly under three feet of water.
And while things are back to normal for the motoring public and pedestrians because the Belize Weather Bureau has predicted more rains over the weekend the Ministry of Works reports that it will be monitoring the situation.
