And while Belize was spared last year - and only endured a category one hurricane the year before, it's not guaranteed that we'll get lucky this time around. And that's why NEMO Coordinator, Colonel Shelton Defour, emphasized the need for personal responsibility during a press conference yesterday.
And one of the most important things you can do is evacuate before it's too late. In 2020, we saw families trapped on their roofs, waiting for the Coast Guard to rescue them after the floods from Eta and Iota washed into the west.
