There’ll be no power outages, at least not right now. Today BEL issued a release saying that it currently has enough generation in place to meet the country’s demand over the next couple of days. CFE in Mexico have determined that their big unit will be under repair until the middle of August but in the meantime CFE is able to provide Belize with 15% of its energy demand.

However, the price of that power is at a higher cost, and BEL will only take it as a last resort. In addition to CFE, BEL is currently taking 16 Megawatts of power from Belize Aquaculture Limited and 32.5 Megawatts from its sister company, BECOL. If there are any planned power outages necessary, BEL will provide notice.
