While hundreds, possibly thousands of Belize City children are at many of the summer camps taking place all over. Today in the Port Loyola area a group of kids in the Allan Pits Crescent Neighborhood had a sort of impromptu street side nature camp. They strung up a crocodile that was lurking in the drains of Port Loyola near the port of Belize. Small children and crocodiles don’t mix, but this was also a small croc and it proved to be no match for the undaunted Tunky Gabourel and Rasheed Young – who fished him out of the drain. They told us about their adventure.

Wilbert “Tunky” Gabourel, Caught Croc in a Drain
“We gone fi my bike and when we were coming through the alley, me went by drain and me see only its head and then I went to call my friend and then me and he gone to buy a hook and he went for his fishing line.”

Jules Vasquez,
“So you went to buy a hook and a fishing line and then what did you do?”

Rasheed Young, Caught Croc in a Drain
“We got the chicken skin and hooked it on the hook and we just left it there for a lil while and then I came back and told him the thing got hooked in the crocodile mouth. It snapped after we when we were taking it out over there.”

Jules Vasquez,
“What will you do with it now?”

Wilbert “Tunky” Gabourel,
“We will go sell it.”

Jules Vasquez,
“To who?”

Wilbert “Tunky” Gabourel,
“Chiney.”

We called the Forestry Department and by four pm – they had picked up the croc and took him for re-location to an area away from human habitation.
