She is the mother of a newborn baby boy but tonight 23 year old Martha Gomez is dead. The young mother was killed this morning in a tragic mishap on the Northern Highway. Police confirm that sometime around 9:30, 23 year old Martha Gomez was getting off a Gilharry Bus bound for Chetumal near the Biltmore. Eyewitnesses say Martha Gomez slipped and later fell when bus driver Donaldo Vasquez sped off. Moses Almendarez was on the bus and witnessed the tragedy unfold.

“When he pushed down his foot on the avs, the lady slipped right out and the door which you walk in with this side and the part where the iron is, that is what knocked her and when that knocked her, the whole of back here split
open for that lady. I was with hospital with her until 12 o’clock.
A lot of people were around and then the policemen were telling us to leave the girl. Why would we leave the girl when she was foaming down there. We could have helped her because she wasn’t dead yet. The girl’s heart was beating real normal, her pulse was normal, the only thing which caught her was the trauma.
She died on the spot, she dead right there. I had this lady and it is like this lady was watching me and trying to tell me to help her. It is like she was trying to tell me help her but I couldn’t help her. If I was God I would give her back her life, serious.”
Police have served Donaldo Vasquez with a notice intended prosecution. They are however appealing for witnesses who were on the bus to visit the police station and provide statements.
