Last week, Benque Police told us that the arrest of former Western Border site manager Julio Santos was imminent, but since then, nothing has happened. And the reason for that is, according to Police, while Santos did sign off on one of the missing deposits, he didn’t sign off on a total of six which went missing. As we’ve reported, over thirteen thousand dollars went missing from the border management office in deposits that should have been made to the Atlantic Bank but simply disappeared.

And while the border management boss Gonzalo Rosado is satisfied that Santos is the lone figure who’s responsible, Benque police aren’t satisfied and have sent the case to Headquarters in Belmopan for advice. They expect that more than one person will be charged. But, for the time being, no one has been charged – and it’s a case we’ll continue to watch very closely because last week, in defiance of the accusations against him, Santos told us that he is the cousin of and “like a brother to” Area Representative, Minister and UDP Deputy Leader Erwin Contreras.

Similarly no other arrests have been made at the City Council or at the Treasury Department where criminal complaints have also been made about theft of public funds.
