Today, the Taiwanese Embassy to Belize made another generous donation to the Government of Belize.
The Taiwanese Government has been consistently providing the Government with much-needed items and equipment in the struggle against the COVID-19 pandemic. But this afternoon, the Embassy gifted a little over $94 thousand dollars' worth of fabric to the Ministry of Human Development, Families, Indigenous Peoples Affairs.
These 523 bails of fabric came by way of a kind gesture from a Taiwanese textile company, who simply wanted to aid Belize's women. Here's what the Taiwanese Ambassador had to say about that company that made the donation without expecting any public mention of their kindness:
H.E. Remus Li-Kuo Chen, Taiwanese Ambassador
"Last year a textile company based charity foundation in southern Taiwan approach our embassy and expressed their willingness to donate the fabrics to Belize without even asking their name to be recognize. A typical good Samaritan. We in the embassy were deeply touched by the charity group benevolence and compassion

and we reply by saying that our embassy was very happy to work with them and to coordinate with them and then finally reach out to the ministry of human development, families and indigenous peoples affairs to make this significant donation a possible event. The cargo for the fabrics all the way from Taiwan finally arrived at the port of Belize just last month in January 2021. Taiwan Embassy believes that the heavy gift from the people of Taiwan weighing 8,915.6 kilograms and valued at $47, 000 US dollars will not only empower women in Belize but also foster economic growth and facilitate Belize's long-term recovery from the Covid19 pandemic. We hope that in the near future we can see authentic made in Belize products made out of the high quality fabrics from Taiwan and worn by Belizeans."
Hon. Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Minister of Human Development
"I want to say that although your country has been so extremely generous in other areas of economic assistance with our health situation, I think that this gift this afternoon is probably the most important of all, because it will give our women the opportunity to pull ourselves back up out of this pandemic and use the fabrics that are being so kindly donated today in a positive and constructive way so that we can benefit our people."

The government says that these fabrics, which are valued at BZ$94,602, include polyester, rayon, and spandex. They will be distributed to women's groups and entrepreneurs across the country by the Women and Family Support Department.
