The Super Bowl - it's one of the world's most watched sporting events, and last night Dangriga born Rakeem Nunez Roches was on that illustrious stage. And, tonight, after his Tampa Bay Buccaneers emerged victorious over the Kansas City Chiefs, the 27 year old defensive linesman is a Super Bowl champ - the first born Belizean to have won a major global-scale world sporting championship.
Here he is celebrating after the game:
And while Nunez Roches has lived in the US for most of his life, he knows well where his roots are planted, as he told a US interviewer in his press conference on Friday before the Super Bowl:
And Nunez Roches can come visit Dangriga as a guest of the nation. Last night the Belize tourism Board tweeted at him and his team's legendary quarterback Tom Brady, urging them to visit Belize to celebrate their victory. The tweet says, quote, "Hey The Belizean Beast, Rakeem Nunez, after the Big Game wouldn't it be cool for you to relax and maybe play some beach football with the GOAT @TomBrady in your hometown Belize? On behalf of The Belize Tourism Board, we invite both of you to a much-deserved vacation on us!" End quote.
We'll see if he takes it up.
