The yawning chasm between Belize's imports and exports continued to grow in the first 10 months of 2023. The merchandise trade statistics show that imports so far for 2023 Belize has imported 1.8 billion dollar sin products - which is only a modest increase over that same period last year. And, not surprisingly the importation of noodles went up:
Tiffany Vasquez, Statistician
"Imports of orange concentrate, coupled with increased purchases of instant noodles and condensed milk, drove the food and the live animals category up by 8%, or $14.8 million. The crude materials category experienced the largest percentage increase, rising by almost a third or $7.9 million to $32.7 million."
"As imports of treated pine lumber continued to be the source of increase in this category. With boosted imports of alcoholic beverages such as tequila and beer, the beverages and tobacco category went up by 10%, or $3.2 million to $35.5 million."
