As we told you earlier, the cane crop started today as planned at the Tower Hill Sugar Mill - but with the exception of the powerful BSCFa and its thousands of members.
At this hour, negotiations continue with that large association - but the Corozal Sugar Cane Producers Association wants no part of it. They had previously signed their commercial agreement for three years, and so they showed up at the mill today to fulfill their contractual agreements.
We asked the chairman of the CSPCA for his views on ongoing dispute with the BSCFA:
Vladimir Puc, Chairman, Corozal Sugar Cane Producers Association
"Well yes sadly that is happening for not three years right I have heard in the media lately it's been three years no it's more than that. It has been almost 10 years right and that is where it came that we now as Corozal sugar cane producers now exist because of that same animosity that there was back then in the industry. But now the problem continues and it is sad because the ones that are getting hurt are the cane farmers from the other associations. and that is where our mission and vision in CSCPA is to look after the livelihoods and the lives of our farmers right so those are the things that we need to abide by."
