And what about an increase in water taxi fares?

Both San Pedro Belize Express and Caribbean Sprinter have announced a temporary fuel surcharge of two to three dollars per fare.

But, is it legal? Well, the Ports Commissioner Kaylon Young told us that the Belize Port Authority has received a request from the water taxi operators for the approval of an increase in fares or fuel surcharge. However, the BPA has not approved any such requests. He adds, quote, "The Government of Belize understands the impacts that the increase in fuel prices may cause in the entire transportation sector and is considering this holistically."

But while they consider it the new fares are already live. So, are they illegal? Young told us, quote, "We have been made aware of the advertisement and we are currently looking into this situation."
