Commuter Pain: New Bus Fares Come Into Effect Across All Bus Lines

New bus fares went into effect across the country today on all bus lines. It's an increase of 50 cents for short runs and one dollar on long runs. It may not seem like much but some commuters - especially those on short runs - say the weekly cost will increase their travel expense by 20%.

Government is subsidizing diesel fuel for bus operators for three months to try and offset some of the cost increase caused by spiraling world fuel prices.

The Ministry of Education says its subsidy for school buses will cost almost a quarter million dollars.
