Minister of Education and Foreign Affairs Francis Fonseca is recovering tonight after a major medical procedure. Fifty-nine-year-old Fonseca underwent major open-heart surgery at the KHMH where surgeons reportedly performed a triple bypass. That suggests he had a significant blockage in three of his coronary arteries.

Fonseca reportedly planned the surgery after experiencing chest discomfort and scans revealed the blockages.

A press release from the government says, quote, "Fonseca successfully underwent a medical procedure today… Following this procedure, the Minister will proceed on a period of medical leave."
