Progress toward making the long-awaited San Pedro Hospital a reality has met funding hurdles as construction costs soar. Reports say that the cost overruns are as much as 15 million, and when we asked the prime minister about this today he wouldn't confirm the figure but told us they will have to talk to the Taiwanese:

John Briceno, Prime Minister

"Well I don't know about 15 million but of course there are cost overruns everybody can know. On Monday I was talking to a contractor and the person showed me some sand, some yellow sand. He said some months ago that sand costed 850, $850 and now it is is $1700 everything has been going up. I mean you don't need to be a genius to know that and so there has been cost overruns because the cost of construction has gone up considerably. Now who will pay it? Well it is something that we will sit-down with the Taiwanese and see what they are prepared to help and whatever they are short for obviously the government will have to pay."
