"Why do you want to put me in trouble with my wife? No but seriously on a serious note again we brought it up with cabinet and we are very concerned but we are supporting our young women, our young girls and women to have access to this vaccine and it is protecting them against cervical cancer so we do support them."
In a statement today, the government steered clear of confrontation with the Catholic Church but pledged support for what it calls a "National School-based HPV Vaccination Programme."
It says, quote, "The Government of Belize remains committed to ensuring equitable access to preventive healthcare services for all children and families across Belize."
