33 year old Lake Independence Resident Clayton White, seen here in a picture from the Stann Creek Star, is in the Southern Regional Hospital recovering from chop wounds to the head, hands, foot and back.
Sounds maybe like he got chanced, but that would be wrong; he's not the victim, he's the alleged perpetrator of a brazen home invasion.
Last night at 9:30, John Lambey was in his home at 33 Oak Street in Dangriga town with 4 other men watching the championship. Lambey had received information indicating that he might be attacked and one of his friends was posted outside as a lookout. Sure enough, at about 9:30 three young men rolled into the yard. The lookout shouted the alarm to Lambey and his friends, and Lambey took the cue to go into the bathroom where he had a machete stowed.
The trio of men grabbed the lookout, pulled him inside, locked the door, and white is alleged to have pulled out a gun while another pulled out the phone line. That's when Lambey flew out of the bathroom and "shied" him with the machete. White allegedly pulled the trigger, but the gun just snapped, and that's when Lambey and his company seized upon him, showering him with blows from the machete.
Seeing that they were outdone, white's two accomplices fled. Police were called and when they got to the scene, they found white badly beaten, along with a knapsack he carried containing masks, wire and string that would have been used to tie up his captors obviously equipped for an organized attack.
And if you're asking what would have pulled such serious players all the way from Lake I in Belize City to Oak Street in Dangriga...well, the answer is drugs. It seems that a neighbor of Lambey's believed that Lambey had a stash of cocaine in his house, and went to Belize City to hire some thugs to "strong" it from him. Well the plan backfired, and police say White will be charged for aggravated burglary when he gets out of the hospital. His two accomplices are still at large but they are also believed to be from Belize City. For his part, Lambey told police that he has no drugs because he earns his living as a fisherman.
