The Mayan temples at Lamanai are becoming some of the most visited in Belize. In fact, over the last 10 years visitation has increased by over 300%, and it presently registers 25,000 visitors a year.

And that's why the site is the beneficiary of a new visitors' center and amenities area. The center, one of the largest at any Maya Site was opened today by president of NICH Yasser Musa. It is funded by the IDB as part of the tourism development project, which is now winding down. The center sits at the edge of the New River Lagoon and inside it features original artifacts.
