This morning, there was a scare at the Wesley Lower School: just as they were being dismissed for the 11:30 lunch break an Isuzu Trooper caught fire immediately in front of the school on Albert Street. That's when two men seeing what happened and sensing the danger to the children swooped in.

Gilroy Ferguson, To the Rescue
"Me and one of my friends we just tried to break the two side door wind shields and the back windshield to make the smoke come out. Then we got some buckets with sand from the school and then we threw that on the fire inside and we got some water at the same time. And then about 5 minutes later the fire pump appeared so that's how we got it out. Completely out."

Q: Were you afraid that it was going to explode on you like in the movies?

Gilroy Ferguson,
"This is not the movies, this is real life. Our main concern was the students. This an infant school so we tried to get it under control as quick as possible."

The fire was put out in 5 minutes; the cause has not been determined.
