It was Magistrate Winston Carr's first day at the office today and he made it memorable. Carr sentenced a man to a year in prison for stealing a bottle of wine and we're not talking vintage cabernet sauvignon...this is more like ruby rich.

24 year old Eckert Fitzgibbon pleaded guilty to theft and asked for leniency and a fine for his crime. But Magistrate Carr denied his request because he has previous convictions. With that he sentenced him to one year in prison.

At around 6:30 on Sunday July 11th, Fitzgibbbon entered a Chinese shop on Freetown Road and ordered a bottle of ruby rich wine which he ran off with it. He was detained within an hour and a half based on a description given by a person who was in the store at the time.
