Police Constables Marlon Martinez and Aurelio Cajun who have both been under a cloud of suspicion for extortion since late May could soon be in the clear. In a pre-trial appearance on Friday the DPP's office indicated that they couldn’t build a prima facie case against the two allegedly bad cops. At that same hearing prosecutors however failed to formally withdraw the charges in writing.

Constables Martinez and Cajun found themselves on the wrong side of the law on May 22nd at the police checkpoint near the boom cut-off when they were busted allegedly extorting $100 and 800 quetzals from Omar Dardon; $70 and 700 quetzals from Haskell Manuel Dardon; and $230 and 500 quetzals from Manuel de Jesus Marroquin all Guatemalan nationals.

The Constables' attorney Dickie Bradley has asked that an apology follow for what his clients went through.
