A Mahogany Heights resident is recovering from a gunshot wound to his right hip after he was shot by a police officer. The man nursing the bullet wound is 31-year-old Calbert Westby who police say was involved in a domestic dispute with his live in girlfriend Jamie Williams. Late last night Williams went to the Mahogany Heights police booth for assistance and Constable Alexander Salam accompanied her to the house. Once there, PC Salam claims Westby pulled Williams into the house and slammed the door in his face. He ordered Westby to open the door and he did but instead of allowing Williams to go free, police say Westby attacked the Constable and reached for his revolver. A struggle ensued during which, police claim, Salam's gun accidentally went off hitting Westby in his right hip. He was hospitalized and treated at the KHMH for the injuries received. Police say they have launched an internal investigation.
