As part of tourism week the today held a social studies quiz in which primary school students duked it out to find out who is most versed on the subject of Belize. In the end it was two young men one from St. Joseph and the other from St. Ignatius. We were on hand and here is how it all ended.
Alfonso Noble Reporting,
The questions and answers in the elimination round of today's Social Studies quiz were at times easy.

Contestant: King Vulture?

Contestant: Great Curassow?
Moderator: Quickly try again.
Moderator: Sorry the answer is Jabiru stork.
And at times just downright obscure.
Moderator: one one full Pataki full.
Contestant: You should not waste your food at once?
Moderator: Try again.
Contestant: Sorry I don't know.
Moderator: The correct answer is little by little a job can be accomplished.
And in the end there were only two: St. Ignatius' Bernard Bradley and St. Joseph's Jeoffrey Segura coming down to this question.
Moderator: Give the latitude and longitude of Belize.
Contestant: 68 square miles wide by 174 square miles long?
Moderator: Try again…the correct answer is latitude 15 degrees to 18 degrees north 88 degree west.
But while Jeoffrey says his best was all that mattered, first place finisher Bernard Bradley could not wipe the smile off his face as he explained how he managed to pull through the strains of question answering.
Bernard Bradley, Winner
"It was very exciting. Sometimes I had a feeling of nervousness but I came over it and I came out first place."
Alfonso Noble,
How long did you take to study all of these questioned and answers?
Bernard Bradley,
"At night I would go to sleep around 11:30 and wake up at 4 in the morning to study again. I know that I worked hard and all my work has paid off."
Today's quiz was a pilot that is expected to be extended to a countrywide event next year.
