Troubled teen Shane Bahadur will spend 5 years in jail for a burglary committed when he was 16 years old. In Magistrate's Court this morning the now 18 year old was convicted of burglarizing the Vista Del Mar home of Phillip Bucknor on February 19 2003. Evidence presented in court showed that around noon a concerned neighbor noticed that Bucknor's door was pried open and then saw Bahadur jumping Bucknor's fence. Police were called and found Bahadur in some nearby swamps with a kit bag along with a ski mask and black dagger. He was charged with burglary and going equipped.
Bahadur appeared undefended before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord who found him guilty on both counts. Lord sentenced the teen to 5 years for the burglary and 6 months for the going equipped. Jackie Willoughby prosecuted the case.
We say he is a troubled teen because Shane Bahadur along with his brother Levi were charged back in 2003 for the murder of Kong Yi along with Michael "Crazy" Arnold. Also they have faced numerous charges for burglaries in the Ladyville area which their family has always maintained was just police harassment. Last year, the DPP withdrew murder charges against the brothers for the Kong Yi murder in Ladyville. As we reported last night, Michael 'Crazy' Arnold also walked from those charges after the case against him in the Supreme Court collapsed.
