The Police Department is moving to upgrade the its methods and means of tracking criminals and today made a stride towards activating the long awaited finger print database for investigators. The Social Security Board donated 6 computers that will be used for archiving and retrieving finger print records. CEO Narda Garcia said that it is an eminently worthy cause.
Narda Garcia, Social Security CEO
"These six computers are one way in which we both achieve our common goal. The significant role these computers will play in the capture of dangerous criminals we hope will be immeasurable. This new division of the Police Department, the Scenes of Crime Unit, will be able to track criminals by their fingerprints. That is a remarkable and timely capability for our country, particularly as we find ourselves in a period where crimes seem to be more violent and more frequent. Social Security trusts that our police officers will achieve what they set out to achieve through the establishment of this new division. The Police Department is confident that they'll be able to track criminals anywhere in Belize using only fingerprints. They also believe that they'll be able to better equip themselves to solve crimes using ballistics and DNA found at a crime. Social Security believes that this is definitely possible because we have faith in the men and women who protect and serve our country."
