We've been following the tragic story of 4-year-old accident victim Leeton Galvez since last week Friday, hoping for the best...but tonight, we can only report his death which occurred at around 2 this morning.

He was on a ventilator and over the past couple of days the doctors had been reducing his dependency on the machine as he was breathing on his own. He was unable to continue however and early this morning he lost the struggle with a debilitating brain injury. Police say they will not immediately bring charges against the man who knocked him down, the case file will be sent to the DPP for review. According to Press Officer G. Michael Reid, it's not a clear-cut case of driver's error because the child ran out into the road.

The news for 11-year-old Jevon Mahler is better.
Family members today

told us that they are receiving some assistance from the public. The Kidney Society of Belize has pledged to pay for the first dialysis treatment for Jevon. But again, there is a complication; presently the procedure is too risky for him as he may bleed to death. So the family is reconsidering that option.

As for his visa, San Pedro residents are working on some way that they can intervene and assist in trying to secure a visa for
Jevon. They've gone to the extent of contacting the Embassy here in Belize as well as other related organizations in the U.S. to secure his visa so that he can travel there for treatment. His mother was denied a visa because she didn't have a source of income.

And while these efforts continue one individual has donated $500 in cash to cover some of the boy's mounting medical expenses.
