A man who says he was the victim of a burglary visited our studios today to complain that he was jailed after he detained the man who burglarized his home.
30-year-old Atilio Ulloa says that on Saturday night his business located on Simon Lamb Street was burglarized and the thief made off with two blenders. Ulloa says he knows who the thief is and in fact detained him for the police and that's where his worries begin. After detaining the man he was charged for wounding.
Atilio Ulloa,
"When we got to the station the police man told me you are detained for wounding this man. I told him I agree to that because I had to hold him so he didn't get away. I asked if I will get a station bail so I relaxed and sat in a corner while my mom and friend were waiting to sign the bail. After a while my mom informed me that they released the man so I asked the officer to give me a station bail because this is going to go harass my family. The policeman told me he didn't care. They then took me in the back and locked me up. Two hours later I heard my wife's voice in the cell in the back. I peeped through and saw that she was detained. She said the guy went on our street and started to insult her and she got vex and tried or slapped him. They called police and shoved her towards the vehicle and brought her to the police station. I stayed there from 7 o'clock to 2 o'clock today and up to this moment my wife is still locked up."
Police say there is no hard evidence against the alleged burglar and that is the reason he has been released from custody. They say however that if Ulloa can bring a witness to the burglary, the man will be arrested and charged. As far as the reason for detaining uyo-wa and his wife police say they did not catch him in the act, and because of that, beating up the man was unjustified.
