Government hasn't announced anything about the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax, or the "GST" as it is known, in fact the only place you probably have heard about the tax is on this newscast. But while no announcement has been made, it appears government is getting ready for implementation, even as a full review of the tax system is ongoing.
7NEWS has learnt that the technical staff of the Income Tax, Business Tax and Sales Tax offices will be dispatched to training sessions tomorrow. The meetings will be facilitated by the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Center, CARTAC. The two day session will be held at the Radisson and it is expected that officers will be given an idea of how to administrate the GST.
As we have reported the GST is a more broad based tax than the sales tax, and is expected to be a hybrid between the VAT and the Sales Tax. Up to the present time government has made no attempt to explain how the tax will be administered.
