A Salvadoran man is dead and two of his drinking buddies have been detained for his killing.
At around 5 this morning police were called out to the village of Caledonia in the Corozal District where they found the lifeless body of a man identified as 58-year-old Francisco Antonio Cartagena. Cartagena's throat had been cut and he had been stabbed twice to the mid-section.
Investigations show that he was drinking with a number of men when he got into a fight with one of them. That man pulled out a machete and chopped Duenas to death. Police have since detained two men pending charges of murder. But the men claim that it is his own brother he started to argue with and they were only trying to help. Whatever happened, it will be hard to established because the violence erupted during a blackout.
