The former postman who stole from his mail bag will have to pay a hefty fine or face serious jail time. Today Brian Luna appeared before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord to answer five counts of destroying postal packets, 5 counts of opening postal pockets, and a third charge of stealing from post packets. The charges date back to December of last year and this morning Luna had his day in court. He pled guilty to he five counts of destroying postal packets and opening postal packets.
He was fined $1,500 for each count for destroying the packets and $1,000 for each count of opening the packets. That adds up to $12,500. Chief Magistrate Lord gave Luna to pay the first $500 by April 30th or face a total of 7½ years in jail.
As for the stealing from a postal packet, Luna pleaded not guilty and his trial for those charges was scheduled to begin later today.
Luna was arrested on December 7th after police found 10 pieces of mails in his tennis.
