There was an execution style killing outside Orange Walk Town this afternoon and police believe it was a drug related hit.
Around 2:00 pm, police found the bullet-riddled body of 46-year-old Alvaro Zetina on the shoulder of Honey Camp Lagoon Road, about a mile and a half outside of Orange Walk Town. He had been shot twice to the head, and multiple times to the body.
Police believe that sometime between 12 and 1:00 this afternoon, Zetina drove his Grand Cherokee into the area accompanied by another person who basically led him into a setup. He was then either ambushed or carjacked, and was taken out of his vehicle, made to stand up behind it, and shot multiple times at close range. The vehicle, with bullet holes, was found abandoned in Orange Walk Town at about 4:00 pm.
According to our reports, police had been providing special protection to Zetina recently after a Mexican hit man, David Rendon and an associate were found in a Corozal hotel room with a virtual armory of various handguns. Police intelligence at the time indicated that Rendon had been hired to kill Zetina.
