A 22-year-old man was killed on Sunday night. Shortly before 8, Dayan Gordon was standing near the intersection of Seagull and Iguana Streets when a white Toyota pulled up, one of the windows came down, and someone inside opened fire. Gordon was hit to the right side of the chest and died shortly after at the KHMH. Police have not found the shooter and could not tell us the possible motive. But there is no answer and no arrest that will soothe Dayan's grieving mother, who like so many mothers before simply cannot bear the loss of her son. She told Alfonso Noble today that her pain is unreal.

Alfonso NobleReporting,
Two bullet holes and a bloodstain at the corner of Seagull and Iguana Street mark the spot where 22-year-old Dayan Gordon was shot and killed. Cynthia Garbutt is Dayan's mother, she says her son had just left to hang out with friends.

Cynthia Garbutt, Mother of Deceased
"He took a bath and changed his clothes and he told me he was going to go down the lane for a little walk and so I was sitting down outside in the chair and when he came through he asked me why I was watching. I told him his hair needs to get braided. And so from there he said his sister will plait it for him but she was taking care of her baby. So I told him okay and he said he was going. I sat down and I watched him when he turned around the lane and then he went. That is the last time I saw him.

I don't know who shot my son but whoever shot my son, I want to ask them why because my son doesn't bother anyone. He mostly keeps in the yard and he would be around the lane. He doesn't go to any function or things they have because he doesn't want to get in trouble and he is nice to everyone. He hangs out and he wouldn't say anything. You would have to do him something for him to do something. He barely even talks so I want to know who shot him and ask him why he did it to my son because if my son had done anything, he could have come and told me. I am not a bad parent. I would have scolded him because I don't encourage him in bad things."

Now the suffering mother is inconsolable. She's a complete emotional wreck, and as she suffers, she explains that she'll never be able to outlive this tragedy.

Cynthia Garbutt,
"He doesn't know he shot my son and took his life and left me here to punish because everyday I get up and I have to deal with it. I go downstairs into my son's room and I can't imagine not seeing him downstairs in his room. I used to wait up at night for him to come home. The only time I would sleep good is when I know he is in his room so I think he is a very cold person who did that and he must remember that he has a mother too and I don't think he would want his mom to feel the way how I feel because that is nothing nice. He left me here to punish while my son is gone. He pulled a trigger and that is the easiest thing to do, to take someone's life. He took the joy out of my life. Everyday I have to get up and see his friends, they remind me of him so I want to know. He could come and told me. He doesn't know how much I love my son because if he knew then maybe he wouldn't have shot him."

After that shooting in the street, police believe the occupants of the same white car went on a shooting spree.
