Another older man has been brutally slain in the Corozal District. 69-year-old Humberto Waight's badly burnt remains were found in the rubble of a home that was destroyed by fire in Calcutta Village. But police say it wasn't the fire that killed him, he was murdered. His remains were found in the house on Saturday morning. A post mortem conducted today revealed that Waight died from two stab wounds to the stomach which were inflicted before the fire. Officer in charge of the investigation, Roshel Chan discussed the case and we have audio of that.

Roshel Chan, Investigator
"What happened is that the police came to the scene in Calcutta at the residence of Humberto Waight. After the fire was controlled by the Fire Department, it was observed that a body was there completely burnt and because the gentleman Mr. Waight lived by himself, we suspect that it was his body. So far no one else has been missing other than him so we believe that indeed it was him."

Jorge Aldana, CTV 3
"Was he badly burnt?"

Roshel Chan,
"Yes he was badly burnt. The body was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for a post mortem that was conducted today by the police pathologist, Dr. Mario Estradabran. Presently we are investigating, recording statements from canvassing the area and so on. After receiving information from the police who did the post mortem and information that the person was stabbed and might have died because of the stabbing, now we are dealing with the matter as a murder."

Jorge Aldana,
"Anybody heard anything, anybody saw anything?"

Roshel Chan,
"So far we are investigating and we haven't gotten anything as yet but as soon as we do probably it will be forwarded to Mr. G. Michael for you guys to be informed. We just want the community of Calcutta, if they know anything, to assist us. All information will be taken down and be dealt with discreetly."

Police now believe that more than likely, the fire was started by Waight's killer to cover up his murder. Police are seeking two suspects.
