A KHMH security guard was stabbed 11 times last night and police say the motive was the oldest one in the book - jealousy. 30-year-old Nolan Arana was at the home of a co-worker on Fairweather Street when the co-worker's ex-boyfriend attacked him with a knife. Police say it was brought on by jealousy, but the victim's girlfriend and family say otherwise. Here is their story.
Keith Swift Reporting,
This afternoon 30-year-old Nolan Arana's co-workers at the KHMH kept vigil at the security guard's bedside. Arana is in a semi-conscious state and is breathing with the assistance of a ventilator because his left lung has collapsed. He was stabbed 11 times and his common-law wife Yvette Flowers was at work when she got the news.
Yvette Flowers, Girlfriend of Stabbing Victim
"They called me from the hospital and they told me how he just got stabbed up and I caught a taxi and I came to the hospital and when I reached here it wasn't nothing nice. What I saw…I couldn't believe it. It was just a shock to me. I have two kids for him, he is my children's father and he doesn't trouble no one if they don't trouble him. I just pray to God, I just put this in the hands of God and he will solve everything. When I saw him, his hand, he had a chop on his hand, he had a chop in his side, and a big chop on his leg - that is all I saw."
Nolan was attacked by the ex-boyfriend of his co-worker Michelle Lennon. He was attacked in an apparent jealous rage. Nolan's common-law wife can't think of any reason why Nolan would have been at Michelle Lennon's house last night.
Keith Swift,
We know he and Michelle worked together but as far as you know was there anything for Michelle's ex-boyfriend to be jealous about?
Yvette Flowers,
"I don't know anything about that. I have no idea. I can't say anything about that because I don't know."
Keith Swift,
Would it be normal for him to go there on Sunday to pick up dinner as he said he was going to pickup dinner when it happened at Michelle's house?
Yvette Flowers,
"I didn't even know he goes to Michelle house because not I know where she went to live so I don't know what they have. I am just hearing this thing since this morning when I came. I was shocked when I heard that since I didn't know anything about it."
Now all Yvette Flores and Nolan's sister Anna Arana want is a speedy and full recovery.
Yvette Flowers,
"I just pray to God and I ask God and I know he will get up from there. And whosoever did it, God will take care of them. In the hands of the Lord I put that."
Anna Arana, Nolan's Sister
"We know he will live, we know he will make it through this. As I said before he is the only brother I have in Belize and I can't lose him. I can't because he has to come through."
Nolan Arana is listed in a critical condition. Police are seeking Alvin Gabb for questioning in connection with the incident.
