Police have taken 7 guns off the street in the last week. They include 5 9-millimeter pistols, a 38 special and an AK-47. Three of the guns were collected in dramatic seizures. One of those seizures was made on Sunday on the Northern Highway by second in command of Eastern Division, Senior Superintendent Chester Williams. He says he was driving on the Northern Highway when he saw a suspicious vehicle speed by. Williams said he suspected something was up and responded decisively.

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, Deputy Commander of Eastern Division
"Yesterday I happened to be on the Northern Highway when I saw a black Dakota pickup moving at a very high speed in the same direction as I was going. I pursued the vehicle and called the Northern Highway checkpoint and I informed that I was in pursuit of the vehicle and to have the vehicle held at the checkpoint until my arrival and I managed to keep up with the vehicle all the way to the checkpoint and when it got there the police stopped the vehicle and I came out and I saw my good friend Ernel Welcome who was accompanied by two other male persons. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discov3ery of this firearm between the two seats.

Ernel Welcome is a known notorious figure. As you could recall, he was accused of murder once and he is one of the discreet drug peddlers within our country."

The other dramatic weapons seizure was made by the Patrol Branch. Officer Commanding, Superintendent Edward Broaster told us that his department made two gun seizures involving pursuits.

Supt. Edward Broaster, Patrol Branch
"One of our patrols spotted a Toyota Camry with license plates 25673 on Caesar Ridge Road where a pursuit ensued. From there they intercepted the car after shots were exchanged between the patrolling team and the occupants of the car. As a result of that, one 9 millimeter Glock pistol was recovered. He received injuries. Attempting to flee he ran out of his car, into one of our unmarked police patrol car doors where he received injuries to his ribs and lip.

The other one was on Saturday where another police patrol intercepted Brian Brown and this was about 8:20 am where they pursued a white 4-Runner without license plates and subsequently Brian Brown alight the vehicle and tried to make good his escape but he was captured where he threw the firearm."
