They were received yesterday in Ladyville but this morning at the Raccoon Street Police Station, representatives from the forensic lab in Chetumal officially handed over ballistics test results to the Belize Police Department. The results are of tests conducted on ballistics evidence which were sent to the lab in Chetumal for testing. The cases range from manslaughter to damage to property. They were handed over to the Commander of Eastern Division Alley Whylie to maintain the chain of custody. Whylie spoke about the results yesterday.

ACP Allan Whylie, Commander – Eastern Division
I believe two murder cases. We had damage to property and there were a couple of others. I cannot recall immediately. I won’t get into any of the specifics in terms of what exhibits they were but I want to say that we continue to receive the cooperation and assistance of the Mexican forensic laboratory which is appreciated.”

If you’re wondering why Belize needs to send ballistic evidence for testing in Chetumal, well we do have a ballistic expert who has been trained by our Mexican counterparts. The problem is that there are certain tests which our lab isn’t equipped to conduct.
