Belize began work today on the country’s first forestry policy. This morning representatives from the United Nation’s Food and agriculture organization handed over a check of US$335,000 to representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment. The FAO’s regional manager Claus Ecketmann told the Government Press Office how the funds will be used.
Claus Ecketmann,
“The National Forestry Program you can say is the summary of all the regulations and the practices and policies which govern relationships of the society with its forest and here in this case, the Forestry Department of Belize prepared a concept note in order to access this facility funds and the funds were granted and Belize was selected among a larger number of countries and the main focus of the development of the facility will be design of a updated forestry policy for Belize.”
The program runs for three years.
