Tonight mystery continues to surround the death of 31-year-old Positive Vibes employee Rennick Reneau. As we reported last night – the post mortem conducted on site was inconclusive. So tonight police aren’t calling it a murder but they are treating it as a homicide and suspect foul play. Keith Swift found out today how that uncertainty is adding to the already burdensome grief for his family and friends.
Keith Swift Reporting,
This afternoon as they spray painted t-shirts in memory of him. there was a certain unease among Rennick Reneau’s family and friends. That is because 24 hours after his body was discovered vacant area at the entrance to Vista del Mar – they still don’t know how he died.
Odessa Bailey, Sister of Deceased
“I know that if they easily shot him, and left him anywhere, it would have hurt us but it hurts us more because of how they left my brother out there like a dog, in the middle of nowhere and it’s a stranger who found my brother and picked up my brother. That hurts me the most.”
And while his family laments how he died, the motive is what really has them puzzled. The last time Odessa Bailey saw Rennick – who is her older and only brother – was on Friday night. When she got the news about discovery of a body in Vista del Mar – she didn’t expect it would be Rennick.
Odessa Bailey,
"He told me they found a body so maybe it is your brother. That was the last thing on my mind that it would be my brother.”
Keith Swift,
When was the last time you saw him alive?
Odessa Bailey,
“Friday night the 12tth of October. He came to look for all of us. He was laughing and making all kind of jokes. That is the last time I saw my brother.”
Keith Swift,
Why would someone want to hurt Rennick?
Odessa Bailey,
“I don’t know why because everybody knows Rennick. Rennick is friends with everybody.”
Included on that list of friends is Keith Acosta. Keith and Rennick have played ball together for most Acosta’s run in the semi-pro league. They were teammates on the San Pedro Tigersharks which won the semi-pro championship in August. The news shocked Acosta.
Keith Acosta, Teammate of Rennick Reneau
“If you know him you know he had a big heart.”
Keith Swift,
What was he like on the court?
Keith Acosta,
“Very competitive. Anyone that played beside him knows that he was a very competitive person and he made up for that within his heart and his courage.”
And when he wasn’t shooting hoops with Acosta, you could probably have found Rennick at Positive Vibes Radio. His boss Yasser Musa says Rennick was more than an office assistant.”
Yasser Musa,
“He was always friendly and optimistic. I think his optimism I would have to say was his greatest asset, a young fellow. he loved sports, could always argue – especially when Press Cadogan comes in on Fridays to do his show. They would always be arguing about the statistics and the scores and when you heard him talk you would get involved because you he was passionate about what he lived and so he will greatly missed.”
And it’s clear that Rennick will be widely missed – from his boss, to his teammates, and of course by his family. All this while that cloud of uncertainty hangs over his family’s home on Lizarraga Avenue.
A funeral is scheduled for tomorrow. As we reported, his mom was in Merida receiving chemotherapy when he was discovered dead.
