There is a disturbing report of police brutality in Dangriga to report tonight. Human rights advocate and attorney Antonette Moore today sent out a statement detailing the ordeal of Harold Henry. It says that on Friday May 16th, Henry was at the Riverside Area in Dangriga when he got into an altercation with an off duty police constable. He was hospitalized for a stab wound, allegedly inflicted by the police.
But later as he was sleeping in a bed at the Southern Regional Hospital under police guard, the off duty constable returned. He was allegedly joined by other on-duty officers who went into the ward, handcuffed his hand to the bed, and beat him with the butt of a shotgun.
That was the weekend, and yesterday when Henry was released from the hospital he was charged for aggravated assault, insulting words, and threat of death. Moore says she has filed a complaint with the Police Internal Affairs Division in Belmopan. We were unable to get comment from the police.
