It is been four days since the death of two year old Vernice Rodriquez and the police continue to question Danna Banner, the woman left to care for the child who died as a result of blunt force trauma. 7NEWS understands that Miss Banner was temporarily released from custody but following Tuesday’s post mortem was again picked up and remains detained. We are also informed that the Belize City Crimes Investigation Branch which is now in charge of the investigation is also questioning Miss Banner’s boyfriend.

Today the Officer in Charge of Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Allen Whylie spoke to 7NEWS about the ongoing investigation.

Allan Whylie, Commander – Eastern Division
“Yes we have Miss Banner in custody and we have her gentleman and based on the results of the post mortem, both persons again will be interviewed today and then we will go further from there. We will be seeking the advice of the DPP again in this matter.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
Why was her boyfriend taken into custody, initially it was only Miss Danna Banner?

Allan Whylie,
“But you understand with these type of cases, we’re trying to find out exactly what occurred and who may have done what or what they may have seen. They were the occupants of that house and they were in essence responsible for the safety and security of that child.”
