A daring robbery was pulled off in downtown Belize City on Monday night and police don’t have many clues. It all unfolded inside Teddy’s Music shop on King Street at 8:40, twenty minutes before closing time. The employees were attending to several customers when a single assailant pulled up and pulled out a gun. The gunman who partially masked his face with a handkerchief approached one of the employees and told him what he wanted. That young man spoke to 7NEWS but because he fears he asked to appear off camera.

Employee,
“We were inside the store and we had three customers inside the store when all of a sudden three young men came in and one of them pulled out a handgun and told us to lift our hands up. So everybody complied and right after that he came to me, approached me, and said face the wall. So I did that and while I did that the other two came in and they searched the customers and they searched my co-workers as well.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
Do you know how much money was stolen?

Employee,
“Approximately like four hundred to five hundred dollars.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
I understand as well a phone was taken?

Employee,
“Well I am not sure what all they took from the customers but from my co-worker yes they stolen his wallet and his cell phone. We have cameras already so they are just installing more cameras, more efficient cameras, and I guess they are taking other steps. I don’t know what the other steps are but at least that first one I know.”

As the employee mentioned, measures are being taken to improve security at the music outlet that is because the only security camera that was present at the store does not have a recording feature and so while the hold up and robbery could have been seen on the monitor it was not captured on tape. If you have any information that can help in the investigation call crime stoppers at 0-800-922-TIPS.
