There was a serious accident this afternoon near mile 31 on the Western Highway. No one was killed but four people, reportedly Nigerian nationals, were hurt, at least one of them seriously. Our 7NEWS team responded to the scene and here’s what we found.
Keith Swift Reporting,
When 7NEWS arrived at mile 31, medical personnel were still attending to the four people injured in the accident. This man was on a stretcher – barely able to move and he had to be lifted up and then carried to the ambulance. This man was in much better shape. He was able to walk and talk but declined to speak to us. Both men were inside this now crushed gold colored Toyota Tacoma pickup. They were enroute to school in Belmopan when around mile

30, the driver lost control. The pickup skidded 40 feet and landed in this ditch.
Radiance Ramos heard the bang and rushed to help.
Radiance Ramos, Rendered Help
“I just heard something go and she said to see something turn over and when I ran down here I saw a vehicle and two persons trapped inside while the lady and her husband were outside bawling and we just assisted with a little help.”
Keith Swift,
So they were trapped inside the vehicle?
Radiance Ramos,
“Two were trapped and two outside just crying for help, ‘oh God oh God.’ I helped bring out the lady and the man and brought them up to higher ground and tried to assist them as much as possible.”
Ramos says there were varying degrees of injuries.
Radiance Ramos,
“One of the other guy that came out of the vehicle, his left hand was broken up and thing so we tried to tie cloth around it to comfort him and thing and the lady was just crying about her chest and like that.”
Keith Swift,
But all four were alive?
Radiance Ramos,
“Yes and in pain because the impact, you can see the vehicle down there, it was really damaged and thing.”
And while all four occupants escaped from this accident with their lives, residents say that whenever this stretch of highway gets wet, it becomes dangerous.”
Radiance Ramos,
“The little rain had just pass over and I think that got the road slippery and thing.”
Slippery and once again dangerous. Thankfully the crushed Tacoma was the only casualty.
There is no police information about the accident. All we know is that they got the call at 2:08 and arrived at 2:38. They confirmed the four occupants were Nigerians and they were heading to school in Belmopan. Again this is unofficial information from police.
